Kansas City Scouts

My second post for the DHL is the Kansas City Scouts of the Eagleson Division in the Saskin Conference.
I love the stripe pattern on the sleeve. When the Scouts were in the NHL they had one of the worst jerseys of the 70's, which was no easy feat!
Thanks to the Ottawa 67's for the jersey inspiration.
I tried to simplify things for the 3rd jersey.

DHL post and QMJHL

My first DHL jersey concept is for the Brooklyn Americans.
Home
Away
Alternate
Whoa! A whole lott'a American there...hence the name.

Next, Glen submitted these Cape Breton Screaming Eagles jerseys. He's replaced their full body eagle and text with another eagle head logo.
Back soon with some more DHL!

The DHL

In an effort to stir the creative pot I have come up with a little project.

Introducing the DHL!

Normally, there would be a logo above, but I have not come up with one yet (concepts welcome). And if I did it would look like an 8 year old drew it in Paint.

What is the DHL? The DHL is the Defunct Hockey League. It is made up of 16 mostly former NHL teams. They are split into 2 conferences and 4 divisions of 4.

The teams are...

Starting in the West, or known as the Saskin Conference. Which, is named after former disgraced NHLPA director Ted Saskin.

Peter Pocklington Division
Minnesota North Stars, who's former arena (Met Center) has been demolished, forcing them to play home games for free at newly built rink at Mall of America.

Colorado Rockies which are owned by the MLB's Rockies owners Charlie & Dick Monfort. In an effort to expand the Rockies name they cross brand the hockey and baseball teams, making the new hockey colours purple and black.

Oakland, California Golden Seals who were not able to decide on a full name so they just jammed it all in there. They are promising fans a golden jersey.

Vancouver Millionaires who are owned by Cyclone Taylor's great great grandson, Cyclone Taylor III. Taylor also happens to be the GM, coach, and star player.

The other division in the Saskin conference

Alan Eagleson Division

Cleveland Barons who’s last incarnation was as the San Jose Sharks AHL affiliate.

Kansas City Scouts who are one of the only teams in the league to play in an arena with a capacity of over 10,000. Hey, the have to do something with the Sprint Center.

St. Louis Eagles play home games at IceZONE, the practice facility of the Blues. Only when the Blues aren’t practicing of course. A few games have been known to be cancelled due to schedule conflicts.

Winnipeg Jets who are another team who play in front of over 10,000. John Ferguson Jr. owns this team in honour of his dad, John Sr. (former GM). JFJ named himself GM and is in the process of building the Jets in the style of his tenure with the Maple Leafs.

To the east, and we find the Mike Danton Conference. Of course, Danton served jail time for hiring a hitman.

The first division in the Danton Conference,

Harold Ballard Division

Brooklyn Americans who are owned by Donald Trump, but he doesn’t know that. Someone put the papers on his desk and he signed them out of habit.

Hamilton Tigers who were almost purchased by Jim Balsillie. When Gary Bettman got word that Jim was trying to buy a hockey team Bettman swooped in and purchased the defunct Tigers for $455 million. $1,000,000 than Balsillie had to offer.

Hartford Whalers who were already owned by the city of Hartford. The Whalers thusly, were the only team to enter the league for free.

Toronto St. Pats were also almost owned by Jim Balsillie. Again, when word got out that Balsillie was interested Leaf ownership bought the St. Pats. MLSE then decided that the Maple Leafs will also play St. Pats games.

Jim Balsillie Division

(originally the Del Baggio Division, but Jim purchased the rights to the name and renamed the division after himself)

Macon Whoopee who are in the league because retired Canadians who go south for the winter were crying for a team. The state of Florida wouldn’t take a team, so they moved the team up one state. Jim Balsillie was able to buy this team because no one else wanted it. Two conditions, he’s not allowed to move it or rename it.

Montreal Maroons who built a rink at the Pepsi Forum (formerly the Montreal Forum, now a shopping mall). They claimed they were taking back what was rightfully theirs in the first place.

Ottawa Senators, not the current ones. The old ones. Eugene Melnyk has threatened to sue over the “O” logo, but current owner Prime Minister Stephen Harper claims, “I don’t care, I make the rules in this country!”

Quebec Nordiques who are owned by Celine Dion. She purchased them because she, “loves the shade of blue in their sweaters.” Thusly the colours of the Nords will never change.

So, if anyone has any concepts that they would like to contribute to this little project (jerseys, league logo, anything) email them in [concepts@hockeyjerseyconcepts.com]

Canada, Wild, and Return of the Jets

I've hit a bit of a dry spell in terms of creativity. Here's a couple that I've come up with.

First, most Canadians don't like Canada to wear black because our colours are red and white. Despite that, here's a black Canada concept.
Next, what if the Jets stuck around to see the Edge era?
And seeing that I have no ideas of my own here's a vintage looking Minnesota Wild concept that Brian sent in.

Kings, Sens and Devils' Retro

Over at Icethetics they came across a site that has pictures of the New Jersey Devils retro jerseys for St. Patty's day. In my opinion, when I look at these I believe that these are vintage replicas that will go on sale. The ones that the players will wear on the ice may be slightly different. For one, I doubt that Reebok would allow the Devils not to put the logo on the back just below the collar. It's on the Flames' jersey, why not the Devils? In the same sense I wouldn't be surprised to see the NHL sheild on the neck of the collar (again a la Calgary). Also, it may not appear (a la Montreal's 40's replica)

Now on to the concepts, where I will start with the Ottawa Senators... ?!@##$ ... (sorry, I just vomited). Glen sent in this mod'ed Sens jersey using the promotional side profile logo on their current thirds. I then also used the promo logo and put it on the original Sens white jersey. It also has the Edge styling, numbering, and the retro "O" shoulder patch.

Brian sent in this Kings concept. A Reebok Edge version of the jersey they had from 67-80. Looks great. This would be awesome if the NHL ever had the Vintage jersey program again.

I also did a Kings concept. This is their former purple alternate and I conformed it to their new Edge style.

Islanders and the Southern Coasts

I got some good concepts emailed to me in these past few days. Keep them coming.

One of which was sent by Glen. He's re-coloured the old Islanders' shoulder patch from their Captain Highliner jersey and placed it on their navy jersey from the late 90's.

Staying on the island, Brian sent in this concept using the wordmark from the Islanders alternate helmets. For the most part, I don't like wordmarks as logos (except Minnesota), but I think this could work really well as an alternate for next year when the use their retros full-time.

Next, I did up a new blue concept for the Lightning.I used their pre-Edge sleeves as inspiration for these sleeves and put the black along the sides in the Edge style.

Lastly, we all know (except for the Ducks) that the Ducks need to be green. Here's a take on their current jersey.

Kovalchuk a Devil

With the Devils acquiring Ilya Kovalchuk last night from Atlanta for practically nothing, they look to return the favour the Leafs bestowed upon them on Tuesday night. Have a new, big name player jump into the lineup and make a huge impact.Last Friday on the 29th of January, the Leafs were at the Prudential Center to face the Devils. For both teams it was the first of 3 of the next 4 against one another. Stories in Toronto were that these teams were going to get very accustomed to each other. It couldn't be further from the truth. Since that game, New Jersey has acquired Kovalchuk and Anssi Salmela. The Leafs have acquired Dion Phaneuf, Fredrik Sjostrom, and J.S. Giguere.A total of 7 players who played in last Friday's game are no longer with either team. The Leafs no longer have Nik Hagman, Jamal Mayers, Jason Blake, Ian White, Matt Stajan (who got the tying goal late in the third) and Vesa Toskala, who came in relief for Jonas Gustavsson. The Devils, of course no longer have the services of Johnny Oduya. What a difference a week can make.

Stars, Islanders, Devils

Put together some concepts tonight, despite feeling under the weather.

Starting with the Dallas Stars.
I've always wanted a jersey to move the armbands up to the triceps where the numbers are located. It doesn't show well on this concept, but believe me it looks great in my head.
Second on the list, are the New Jersey Devils. I tried to go a different route with a black jersey, but I kept finding my way back to shoulder yolkes and armbands.Last, I've always wanted an orange concept to work for the Islanders. I wasn't as mortified as everyone else was to their 2002 offering. Here is another shot by me to create a good orange Islanders concept.

New Leafs, Avs and Thrashers

Yesterday the Leafs made a couple big trades with the centre pieces being Dion Phaneuf and JS Giguere. *Cliche Alert* Only time will tell if these guys work out. Anyways, here's their new jerseys.Garnet Exelby gave up his #3 and took Ian White's old #7 (doesn't matter, Exelby asked to be traded anyways) and Giguere occupied the newly vacated #35.Going to Calgary was Ian White, Nik Hagman, disgruntled and useless Jamal Mayers along with the Flames' new #18 Matt Stajan. Also, over the weekend I was sent a couple of concepts from Glen. First he rid the Thrashers motocross jersey of the script logo and replaced it with the little used "A Bird" logo and added new shoulder patches. He also sent in a much called for (from the internet community) "Big Foot" Avalanche concept. He used the former alternate jersey template.
That's all for now.
